When you fret because you can’t really afford that high-end, brushed-nickel, designer faucet that would go perfectly in your kitchen sink, just remember:
-that 783 million people in the world do not have access to safe water, roughly 11 percent of the world’s population.
-that 700,000 children die every year from diarrhea caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation – that’s almost 2,000 children a day.
-that the weight of water, commonly carried on their heads by women in Africa and Asia is 40 pounds
-that 12 percent of the world’s population uses 85 percent of its water, and these 12 percent do not live in the Third World.*
“The obvious issue is providing clean drinking water and sanitation to every single human being on earth at the cost of little more than one year of the Kyoto treaty.” Bjorn Lomborg
